On the road to Barichara where memories are made
At Fuel Motorcycles, the spirit of adventure is what drives us forward. We are excited to share the incredible post-adventure story of two of our friends in Colombia, who embarked on a thrilling journey to the picturesque town of Barichara. After sharing their preparations with you earlier, we now bring you the highlights of their unforgettable ride.
A cold and early start
The adventure began at dawn, with the collaborators setting off at 4:30 a.m. The cold morning air greeted them as they climbed the Alto de Letras, a mountain pass sitting at 3,677 meters above sea level, with a biting temperature of just 4°C. Despite the chill, the winding roads and breathtaking views made this one of their favorite routes. As they descended to Mariquita, the temperature rose drastically to 36°C, highlighting the remarkable contrast in Colombia's climates.
The route to Barichara
Leaving behind the cold, the riders continued on the Ruta del Sol, which brought them closer to their destination. After reaching Bucaramanga, they still had 160 kilometers to go, but what lay ahead was perhaps the most spectacular part of their journey: the Chicamocha Canyon. This natural wonder, one of the largest canyons in the world with a depth of around 2,000 meters, left them in awe. As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the landscape, the winding road offered a perfect setting for the kind of motorcycling they love most.
Arrival in Barichara
After 14 hours on the road and covering 620 kilometers, they finally arrived at their destination: Barichara, Santander. The journey took longer than anticipated, but the narrow roads, heavy traffic, and challenging topography made every mile worthwhile. Upon arrival, they found comfort at Buratá Haus, a hotel near the town center, where the warm hospitality of the owners made them feel right at home.
Exploring Barichara
Barichara did not disappoint. The town, with its charming, picturesque houses, cobblestone streets, and unique restaurants, captivated them from the moment they arrived. They spent time exploring its surroundings, delving into its rich history and culture, and were left with a deep desire to return and discover more.
The return journey
The final leg of their journey took them from Barichara to Honda, passing through the Boyacá department. The cold climate returned, but it only added to the beauty of the landscapes, lagoons, and unforgettable roads that guided them back home to Tolima. This historic region offered a fitting end to their adventure.
The spirit of adventure
This journey was not just about reaching a destination; it was about embracing the road, the landscapes, the people, and the culture that enrich our lives. As they reflect on their adventure, they are filled with a renewed spirit to continue exploring the world on two wheels, with every new journey bringing them closer to the heart of what it means to truly live.
