Stage 2: Scram Africa 2025

Day two of Scram Africa 2025 proved to be one of the most demanding yet rewarding stages of the entire journey. The effects of heavy rains from previous days were clearly felt, turning parts of the track into long, dense rivers of loose stones. Many riders experienced falls, but luckily, no serious injuries occurred, and the spirit of adventure remained strong.
Crossing the Saghro Mountains and Beyond
The day began with an essential refueling stop at waypoint 4, just after leaving the hotel. Riders then entered the off-road tracks of the stunning Saghro Mountains. The wide and winding trails through this remote and wild landscape provided some of the best riding of the trip so far.
After navigating these mountain trails, the route reached the town of N’Kob, where participants had another chance to refuel. From there, it was around 89 kilometers to Zagora, with a strong recommendation to fill the tanks before heading towards the desert.
Unexpected Obstacles and Desert Life
The journey back onto rougher tracks challenged riders with heavily eroded paths, deep ruts, and rocky descents. One of the toughest sections was the riverbed crossing, completely washed out by last autumn’s rains, forcing riders to carefully pick their way across and test their navigation skills.
Along the way, in a moment of camaraderie and spontaneity, some riders bought watermelons from roadside vendors. They took a well-deserved break under the shade of a lone tree to enjoy the refreshing fruit before continuing.
As the day wore on and daylight began to fade, a group of participants sensibly decided to shorten the stage to ensure a safe arrival at the night’s bivouac.
Bivouac Under the Stars at Erg Lihoudi
The final part of the day took the group through a mix of asphalt and sandy tracks towards Tagounite, the last fuel stop of the day. From there, it was a short distance to the majestic dunes of Erg Lihoudi, where the bivouac awaited.
Camping under the stars in traditional haimas, the group shared good food, cold beers, and a roaring campfire. The day ended with stories and laughter, reflecting on what had been an intense but unforgettable stage.
Stage 2 of Scram Africa 2025 brought the riders to the very edge of the Sahara Desert and solidified the bond between participants through shared challenges and stunning landscapes.
